An Introduction to What this Is, and All That Jazz

The immediate function of this site might elude you at first. Well, that's not quite fair. You can probably guess by the name of the page and the content within that this site catalogues the adventures of two World of Warcraft characters as they travel to regions within the world that should not be accessible by players. What you probably don't get is, "Why are those crazy cats doing such a thing?!"

Well, also to be fair, you probably don't use outdated slang like "crazy cats" either. But bear with us.

We are cataloging everything you see here for a variety of reasons. The most obvious reason is that within the next few months, Blizzard Entertainment (that's the people who make World of Warcraft) will be releasing an expansion, "Cataclysm." This expansion will remodel all of the game's old world, which coincidentally contains all of the really fun places you can get to by... uhm, "creative exploring." Which is what we specialize in.

The less obvious reason is because we really enjoy going to these places. It isn't a rush of being where we're not meant to be; we're not rulebreakers for the sake of it. These locations say a lot about the people developing the game; it's a window of insight into the tools they use, and the style that they have when using these tools. It's about seeing a game in-development; for those of us who aren't in the industry, this is a rare thing. We get to see ideas that never made it, we get to see what the developers were thinking when they modeled certain parts of the world. It's thrilling to see the origin and creation of such a vast landscape, even a virtual one.

So now you know why we do what we do. But... who are we?

Glitcher here is the mother of this particular blog. It was her idea to start something like this, and she's taken numerous screenshots over the last year or two of our travels. She's the one who showed me my first inaccessible area in World of Warcraft (the fabled Ironforge Airstrip), and she's the one who tells me, "Hey, we haven't been here yet!" Because of her, this endeavor exists, and I've seen more wonders in Azeroth than one thought possible.

Myself, the Eye of Woden, am the overly-romantic writer of this introduction. I also have a huge interest in game design and worldbuilding, and I am also a huge patron of gnomes. Remember: Gnomish technology never breaks... it just explodes from time to time.

Now you know who we are and what we're about. No more small talk, eh? Let's get on to the fun part-- the Glitchlands of World of Warcraft!
